PINS 04/06/03
PINS, is a funny old place and can be relied upon to entertain and surprise you.
The SFCCI had its get together at the 4 wheel drive sign and as always it was great to spend some time with this worthy club and its members. The Corpus Chapter is very keen to help people enjoy PINS. They had a great Texas style BBQ and a fishing tournament for the members. Surfmiester won the pot with a 15 inch whiting. I had to go south to check out what the beach and fishing was like below the High Banks. Reports of mullet in the surf started at about the 30s south. Driving on low water was a breeze but slow on the high. Water cleared nicely in the 30s and became milky again past the 40s. Not much weed yet.
The Jacks had been reported heading south and tearing the beach up like a bunch of Hells Angeles having a “good old time”. They seem to have stayed in the clear water section of PINS and then moved out.
Surprise. 1
Imagine the surprise when this Ford hit this.
The truck was broken in half and left in the water at about 22 miles south. No one was injured according to reports.
Driving on PINS can be dangerous. Lucky it was an old can that he hit and not a person. Some good rules to remember when driving on the beach.
1:“ If you can’t see their eyes, they cant see you”.
2: “If it looks like a big can full of sand, don’t hit it”.
Surprise. 2
During the week I had offered assistance to a broken down individual who had been in the high banks for a couple of days. He would not get in my truck and told me to get him fuel and bring it back. I told him no, as I do, and left him. It turns out that I was lucky he did not get in my vehicle, as he was a very nasty person, with a very long criminal record, that was up to no good. “I could have been murdered or even worse, raped.” Be careful whom you offer assistance to and people that approach you.
Entertaining 1
Check out these great pets that a lady and gentleman from Austin were giving some sea air. Cant remember what they were called, they looked like a skinny Raccoon that was the offspring of a Possum.
Water temp is coming up and bait is in the surf. Should get good quick. Good fishing and be safe. Regards Nickaway
