Hit Counter

Only mad Frogs and Englishmen.

I decided, as it was a long weekend that I would spend some time with my buddies the Froghunters and sleep on the beach. As I left the black top the water looked good, by the time I hit the 20 it was starting to look bad. I wanted to go south and I was hoping that the water would clear once I was past the high banks. At about the fifty-five she becomes clean. At the fifty-seven I noticed a pinch in the long running wide first gut. The beach looked good so I decided to set camp.

The bite was slow, hardheads and whiting only, but I was convinced when the tide went down and I could wade to that pinch, I was going to pull some trout on lures, as the sunset.  At about eight thirty, the tide had not started recede so I again slung bait at the pinch, still only hardheads and whiting.  I was thinking about what I was going to take some pictures of and write about Monday morning when this coyote appeared from the dunes and walked into the water. She looked as if she had just had pups and was cleaning herself.

Charlie Golla, stopped by and informed me that the small tropical depression in the gulf was winding up and potentially could hit Corpus by the morning. (No wonder the water was not going down.) We made the decision that being 57 miles down the beach with the water going to hit the dunes was not the place to be. Reeeeeeeeetreeeeeeeeeeat.

We had just left camp and the Ranger arrived to inform us the beach was going to close and at 9pm and we were heading out. “So much for the night on the beach”. The beach narrowed down to about 30 feet and forced all traffic to run the same tracks, cutting the beach up and making driving slow. The CB was crackling with stuck vehicles all heading north. My truck was overheating but the rule of Frog is “You are not stuck till your all stuck”. It was about 1am by the time I finally got off the beach.

Sunday, new day, weather looks great for a bit of casting in the afternoon. I phoned Daylin and told him of my plans and arranged to meet him at the park for a practice session.  We were not to be the only ones meeting at the park at the time.  Here are some pictures of two weather systems coming together which stopped us casting.

We had a cold front from the south and a thunderstorm from the north. Out of this lot I was hoping to get a picture of a tornado, all I got was wet.

That’s my report. Regards Nickaway
